lf01 with the candlestick in the parlor

8 08 2010

Remember, your seat can be used as a flotation device.

With these scenes, we close out London’s Fog 01. Feedback welcome, as always.

I wanted to make sure I got this finished today — for the next two days I have to drive into work (ugh) due to my Comcast line being slippery as an eel. Wednesday I’m getting FiOS and that’s the end of that. But then, Friday, it’s time for the toenail excision on my OTHER foot (remember that from April?) and I’ll be laid the hell up for some time. So, this was my last chance to get you guys some writing. Hope you like it.

  • 01:04:13: Okay, Stephen Moffat’s new Sherlock Holmes series? AWESOME. I gotta get more of this. Hope it has a stateside release.
  • 02:07:20: Another late night. I haven’t gotten much done worth note… want to tack on an hour so I can do SOMETHING constructive today.
  • 13:00:08: Wake up, dead internet, unplug/replug everything, unscrew/rescrew cable, internet lives. Wednesday can’t get here soon enough.
  • 14:24:31: Watching the awesome GET LAMP documentary about early text adventures. I’ve tried writing IF before, but I’m no good at puzzle design.
  • 17:47:59: I usually write late at night, but… I’m gonna be going into work two days in a row this week (goddamit Comcrap) so I’ll try to write now.
  • 19:57:56: There we go; anachronauts london’s fog 01 is now draft complete. And just in time, considering next week’s hell. http://bit.ly/dliJZx
  • 21:37:20: Hour and a half before bed due to early commute. Story written. …hmm. Sherlock episode two, I think. Was gonna save it, but can’t wait.

Comments (and spoilers) ahead…
— “dreamt of in your et cetera et cetera”: Heehee. :) LJ icon chosen!
— “dead in the water”: Well not technically WATER… Might want to be clear that the turn of phrase is only an analogy here. For now.
— I somehow imagine that Gilbert’s Device is like the steampunk equivalent of those infinite mirrors.
— “nothing left to do was wait”: I guess you mean “only thing”
— Yay Benny! Exonerated and day-saving!
— “Soverign” + e = Sovereign
— Nice little mer scene — and author-sneaky confirmation that the saboteur is still with us ZOMG!!

He could also mean “but wait”. Looks like he did the same thing I do sometimes when writing, combine two similar phrases simply because my mind switches gears and, being basically the same thing said different ways, I don’t catch it :P
Awesome stuff as usual though, Twoof! Now you just need enough to release as a book.

I’ve seen him do that before for comedy value, but in this case figured it was just a crossed-brain-wire, yeah.
Book… whee more cover-making!

Technically we have enough for another book — Forsaken Shores. I just need to write a bonus chapter for it. Which I have some loose ideas for (using the ‘flashback framework’ to fill in the gaps on the three year jump), but nothing solid quite yet.

Forget cover making, I just want a pic of Una dressed as Sherlock Holmes for some reason. London Fog just makes me imagine the ditzy young woman in a deerstalker cap with a pipe that she takes a puff from and doubles over coughing, and I can’t get it out of my HEAD.
Completely unrelated to the story, too. I hate Stefan.

So an Una version of the Love Detective, then: http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/archive.php?today=992&comic=978

Maybe I should be hating you instead!
But yes, sort of like that. It even fits her personality. “Is this not the way one is supposed to dress when investigating a crime?”

Off to a strong start. Some funny, some cute, some danger, some foreshadowing.
I continue to love Benny (as I’ve said in a previous post I’ve always had the soft spot for the ‘scoundrel’ [especially those whose hearts have even the smallest percentage of gold in them {I’m probably going a little far with this whole paren thing}]) and was pleasantly surprised to see Chloe return. It should be interesting to see what you have planned for her. I also have to say, based in part on a twitter comment of yours, that I am highly intrigued by where you are going with Benny and Chloe. I get the sense just from reading the chapter this won’t be a standard romance (not that standard is bad and presuming there even WILL be a romance) like the last couple of… Is books the right term? Whatever.
Here’s to the first chapter of London Fog. And the waiting game begins. … … … … Is the next chapter posted yet? No? Darn. I really suck at this game. :)

I’m even worse at that game than you are. =)

Given my asstastic internet situation and the fact that I have no outline for lf02 other than “We meet Penny Dreadful and the Sky Pirates and there’s a love triangle situation,” well, you may have to get better at that particular game.

You just made the game worse, because that outline sounds awesome.
