Here is why I am repeatedly changing my pants as I read news about Rock Band 3.

Yeah, it’s got keyboards. Yeah, it’s got ‘pro’ level guitars I’ll never use. But the real fun? all the little quality of life features.

* Keyboards can play the guitar and bass parts — and vice versa! I can play any guitar part in the game using a controller my fingers can actually use. Only five keys, too! Proof:

(It also has tiny text indicating that even when all the controller ports are gobbled up by instruments, the vocalist can still participate thanks to… something offscreen. Probably the party leader picking vox difficulty for them.)
* World Tour is comprised of shorter, more randomized event based party game style runs through your setlists. Far more repeatable, far less boring, and with no loading screens — instead you see YOUR band doing things, traveling, doing sound checks, etc.
* You can sort your playlist by length, decade, genre, and self-selected rating in lighters. Lighter ratings also determine appearances in random playlists (5 meaning often, 1 meaning never!)
* It’s borrowing GH5’s “any combo of instruments” feature (whoo, four drumsets on stage. Kinda lame.)

I can’t wait for this game. I hate that phrase, and I’m using that phrase. I LITERALLY cannot wait for this game. In the time it takes for it to arrive I will be counting the damn days. Good god, y’all. Oh, and here’s today’s tweets (kinda related).

  • 00:17 Okay, time to go to bed and HOLY CRAP ROCK BAND 3 MEGALEAK DETAILS look before it’s thread deleted bit.ly/cZBjdi now sleep. #
  • 15:15 Listening to the (partial) RB3 setlist today. The 2000s songs are made of lolwut (although Rilo Kiley’s surprisingly good), the rest = gold. #
  • 17:29 Team Fortress 2 is free for the weekend, and now works on PC and Mac and is awesomesauce. www.teamfortress.com/macupdate/ #
  • 22:42 Sketched out a five chapter arc for the next anachronauts story. Tricky part is portraying European countries I’ve never visited. #
  • 22:44 As proof I’m seriously working on these stories, enjoy these (very tentative) future chapter titles for anachronauts. bit.ly/cht0Fo #
  • 22:48 Example: I’m really not sure what the hell to do with Spain. As an uncultured American swine, all that comes to mind are Mexican motifs. #

Lemme know if I can help with the Europe-ness. I’ve been to a few of them.
Beyond that, try a google search for “living in _(country)_” and “tips”. Or “moving to _(country)_” You’ll find a lotta expats pointing out cultural and logistic differences.

I think I’ll start a blog post just for this.

One thing you missed in the TF2 awesomeness–not only is the Mac version finally out, but they added *practice* modes for us noobs who don’t have a clue how to play the classes. :-)

Yeah, I tested that some last night. It still assumes a basic familiarity with FPS controls but everything from that point outward is taught to you. Very nice.
Problem with the offline mode is that the bots are idiots. They’re incapable of pushing offensively without you paving the way. And thanks to Sentry Guns being VERY powerful, without a coordinated push, you’re probably not taking Dustbowl on blue with your bot team.
