I don’t usually follow Gizmodo, what the frack happened? O.o;
(And on a side note, I haven’t re-read fs05 yet – I’m going to combine reading the revised finale with that massive typo sweep which I offered to do and you took me up on. I’ll get to it sometime, just not sure when yet.)

Some Apple tech lost his unreleased prototype iPhone in a bar. Gizmodo paid $5k for stolen property, then dissected it and posted details. So, Apple got the cops to raid the journalist’s house and take all his stuff just in case any of it had photos of the phone.
Everybody’s being shady all around on this one.

To be fair, the lag wasn’t too bad until the devs did silly things like a half dozen AV’s/GM’s while someone else decided a rikti invasion was the way to go. Once that happened we all stood around for about 5 mins unable to do anything at all.
Other than that it was great fun! 142 merits in an hour and a half, plus badges on tons of chars that didn’t have em.

I loved seeing the details on the new phone — but I’m pretty sure Gizmodo’s the only one being shady here. They did break a few laws after all, and publicized doing so for their own profit…
Pretty sure that industrial espionage through the purchase of known-lost property is kinda Bad, legally speaking.
(There’s no finders-keepers rule for property in this situation.)

…. hmmm, and now that I’ve RTFA, it looks like Gawker does have at least some legal leg to stand on about whether the search was properly conducted. Interesting. Well, what do I know?
An interesting related article:

Now I wish I had gone. Merits are unobtainium in any serious amount, unless you’re routinely running TFs. Ahwell.
