We All Live In a Clockwork Dirigible

Jen, can you make this suck less?

I have no sense of scale and this is probably totally unworkable as an aerial home away from home slash exploration vehicle. Still, I like the overall layout (central room, with living quarters, kitchen, bridge, and guts spoked off from it).

Looks pretty good to me, actually. You need a Privy in the cabin section, I suppose (but that could be implied). Or back by the Galley since that would consolidate the ship’s plumbing and wastewater needs.
So the Clockwork Mermaid is shaped like an actual water ship on the bottom? Or is that just aerodynamic coincidence?
Also, knowing what I do of the C.M.’s origins, shouldn’t there be… mmm… certain other accoutrements on the decks?

Yeah, it’s your basic shippyship lashed to a giant balloon. …and I’m fuzzy on the ‘accoutrements’ you’re talking about. ICQ me or something.
Are the sizes fine? I want to make sure I’ve allocated enough room. Also, any chance you can make this a Proper Gentlemanne’s Blueprintte, fanart-wise? :)

For some reason I’m reminded of a ‘What’s New with Phil and Dixie’ from back in the Foglio’s ‘Duelist’ days, showing the internal layout of the Weatherlight from the M:TG game (which was itself basically a Spelljammer).

You do not want to have to carry food from an upper Galley down spiral stairs. Nor do you want your human servants doing it, if you plan on eating much of the food. Of course, if Jeeves does the cooking that problem may be illusory. Alternatively, you could have a little clockwork cog railway that brings the grub from the Galley to the table and then runs around it, stopping at each place so people can help themselves… (Don’t thank me, thank Louisa May Alcott — the railway appears in a story by her called “Fairy Pinafores”, and her copyright has lapsed, so.)

That’s what integrated clockwork dumbwaiters are for. :) It can swap over to a train when it gets down, perhaps!

I… see. So, the vast expanse of space up to the carefully coffered wooden ceiling is mostly filled with tubes ‘n’ pipes ‘n’ stuff, all highly polished?

For some reason, the “axle propellers propellers” make it look like a particularly verbose ROFLcopter.
