My action item list for promoting anachronauts, now that we have some solid chapters worth promoting…
* Submit it to StumbleUpon under “books”. Well, I submitted it, but I can’t figure out how to tag the damn thing. I’ve never used SU before. Anybody wanna help there?
* Join the Bookaholics Blogring. App’s in the mail, code’s on the page.
* Join some blogcatalog groups on reading and writing. I’m iffy on this. I’m in enough damn social media networks as is; I don’t want to have to worm my way into another and spend time participating long enough to gather the ethos needed to advertise there. I could learn more as a writer, yes, but I only have so many hours in the day here.
* Submit to webfictionguide.com. Done. Hopefully they’ll approve it. I kinda floundered at having to write a 50-100 word summary of the series.
This is the first time I’ve actually made an effort at promotion, honestly. I prefer to just Do My Thing and let the chips fall where they may, hence my reluctance at going beyond “submit a link to site foo”. I’m not a singing, dancing marketing agent here to jump through firey hoops to make the public interested in my thing. My job is to write the story because writing is a lovely experience for me, and that is typically the end of my involvement.
What can you do to help? Get word out any way you want. Tell friends, twitter it, blog it, post it to various wacky Web 2.0 sites, do whatever you like. Generally I rely on word of mouth, since this is not a moneymaking enterprise and paying for ads would be silly.

This was how I summarized it:
The story is a genre mash-up with Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi and Fantasy having made appearances thus far. The setting is a future Earth, the characters are wacky, and when we first meet our heroes, hijinks have been ensuing already. Eight chapters are planned, two are currently up for your perusal and feedback. I promise it’s worth the read if you are the least bit intrigued by what I’ve said so far.
My concern is overemphasizing the funny and the wacky hijinx will make people D: when they get to things like Una and Dennis, and then they’ll flee. There’s plenty of bleak horror mixed in here. About right, otherwise.

I suppose Drama gets a little sidelined up there, eh?
And I wouldn’t describe it as post-apocalyptic (at tozetre down there). Probably this is because I have difficulty divorcing post-apocalyptic from dystopian. And possibly both of these words still describe Anachronauts, and the reason they don’t feel right is that I usually associate both with grungy cyberpunk.

I think we’re post-post-apocalyptic. The apocalypse happened, but eventually settled down into something resembling society. There are still ruined cities around, and the population’s decreased, and there are bands of roving marauders… but also governments and structure and organization have formed up again, to varying degrees of success.
One idea I’m pondering for a03 is having Minneapolis-St. Paul be closer to post-apocalyptic. It’s too close to middle America (Summer Court dominant) and Canada (Winter Court dominant) to not have to endure regular antagonism by the rowdier elements of Fae society.
So, you may be seeing more ruins and more survivalism there compared to the shining jewel of the Atlantic, Baltimore. (Well, not so much shiny as functional. Not so much a jewel as a lump of concrete. But you get the idea.
Sounds like the old Bambi film, but I’ll take it!
